For Silas Tayte, aged 19 and a Mixed Martial Arts fighter; life itself has been the biggest battle of all.
An orphan at 12; then raised by his sister Jade, after recovering from life threatening injuries; he continued to struggle further through his teenage years with mental illness, until he was properly diagnosed as bipolar and treated effectively.
However, his illness is only stable when his medication is properly managed, and it’s hard to care about that when life is happening all around him.
When his girlfriend Shae walks away, his world implodes.
Isobelle Mulligan, aged 25, was raised in a life of privilege that she was desperate to escape. Drawn to a military life, she participates in two tours of duty in Afghanistan as an Army medic... before it’s all cut short by an IED.
She keeps to the fringes of society, trapped in the confines of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Cleaning at a transitional age youth division of a private mental health facility; Isobelle’s withdrawn nature is challenged by Silas... and because of her employment; their growing friendship must remain a secret.
Despite pain, heartache and interference, the two eventually fall in love.
However, life is rarely that helpful, and the two are consistently tested to prove that they deserve their chance at happiness.
"I’m perched over the top of her, and I’m breathing hard, and I have this confusing moment where I almost move in to push her shirt up and begin kissing her under it, but I stop myself; and I mean, I literally just stop myself and look at her giggling underneath me.
My brain is analyzing this moment in extreme detail.
I’m aroused; seriously and unquestionably aroused.
I want to bury myself in this woman.
I want to tell her what she’s doing to me, but I don’t want to ruin the friendship we’ve started.
I’m finding her laughter intoxicating like a siren’s song.
I think she’s not only beautiful, but seriously hot.
I find her scent intoxicating.
I have yet to discover any serious flaws in her.
I’m not sure how I feel about Shae anymore, it’s just pain. I can’t even feel regret for not trying harder.
I’m scared."

I really enjoyed this book. I liked Silas in the first book and it was great to get to know him better in this book. There is a major cliff hanger ending, which is kind of annoying. I hope it does not take too long for the next book to come out. There were a few minor things that bothered me with this book. The Characters move from Australia to LA. I prefer it when authors have their stories take place in areas they are very familiar with. In this story we meet Jade, who is American, but she says things like trolly instead of cart, in residence instead of at home, lounge area instead of living room, and many more such expressions. There are parts when Jade teases Silas about his Australian expressions, but then she uses a bunch of them herself, it just really messes up the flow of the book.
I understand that independent authors do not have access to high priced editors, so I cut them slack because of it, but if it is not possible to have someone who is American, or familiar with American expressions proof read the book, then an easy fix would be to just have all the books take place in Australia.
I love miss Copp's characters and they are very well developed, but I find that their voices are always too similar. The books are written with from multiple POV and there were many times that I got confused and had to go back to see who's POV I was reading from. The dialog is well distinguished, but when we are in the characters heads, they sound very much alike.
One example I can think of off the top of my head, is when we are reading from Silas' POV and he talks about his "morning glory" then just a few pages later when reading from Jade's POV she too refers to his "morning glory" Something like that is not a very common thing to say, so it seems odd that too people would use the same reference. That is just one small example, but it is little things like that that make the characters all sound very much a like and not as distinguished as they should be.
I am sure it sounds like I am being very nit picky, but I hope that it can be constructive. I really like miss Copp's books. She has great stories to tell and writes wonderful characters, if she continues to grow and improve as a writer I am sure I would not just like her books, but love them.

Fake A Pretty Pill #2 edition by Criss Copp Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Fake was a book I was highly anticipating and Copp did not disappoint. I liked Silas in Pretty Pill but Fake threw me head over heels in love with him. Seriously, I wanted to pluck him out of my kindle. What caught me the most about Silas was vulnerability. There are several scenes were his fear of ascending and becoming manic are so tangible I even felt overwhelmed. The first glimpse is in the prologue and I, like Isi, was totally caught up in Silas's pain and fear. Having Silas's perspective allows the reader to understand first hand his struggle with bipolar disorder. Reading about his manic episode from his eyes was fascinating and saddening. I couldn't help smiling that Silas named his hallucinatory entity Logan! He would make something ugly and destructive into something more comical and less scary.
Isi was an awesome love interest. She's overcoming her demons and insecurities as well. Her personality was much softer than Jade's but she held her own in the novel. I do hope that in the next book she comes out a bit stronger in voice. I really wanted to get to know her better but I felt her perspective was not as strongly written as Silas and her struggles were glossed over. It did not stop me from liking her character but I guess I wanted to know and love Isi as much as I did Silas so I am hoping for more of what makes Isi, Isi in the third book. I am a huge fan of character development and Fake was all about these two characters growing individually and together.
Loved their romance. It started with an amazing friendship, considering how hard it is for both characters to open up to people and let them into their space or bubble, and blossomed into this sincere love. I loved Silas's introspective moment regarding Shae & Isi, and that he did not want to rush his feelings with Isi. He wanted to think and make sure. I've read a lot of New Adult fiction from dual perspective and I have to say I've never read the male perspective about his love interest in the way Copp portrayed it. It was refreshing, mature and beautiful. Thank you for giving us a male protagonist that thinks about more than his instrument down south!
If I was waiting anxiously for Fake, I am dying for Resilient. How can you do this to me!?!?!? Please, please, please Silas and Isi just can't take anymore thrown their way! They are already broken characters trying to put the pieces together. After that ending I am almost afraid they might be broken for good....I really hope Resilient comes out by summer because I can't take an ending like this.
Editing was spot on! The writing was well done and tight. A few vocabulary errors (heel v. heal/ site v. sight), but nothing distracting.
I can't understand why there aren't more reviews for Criss Copp's books. I've read all of them so far and I have enjoyed each one. Fake is the sequel to Pretty Pill, and is about Silas, Jade's younger brother. From a young age he's had to deal with being bipolar and how it has affected his relationships with family, friends, and his girlfriend. He has just moved from Australia with his sister and her fiance to the United States. His girlfriend breaks up with him and he suffers a manic episode. While in a facility that handles people with mental illness he meets a young nurse who he forms a friendship with. Isobelle is a few years older than Silas, but her friendship with him gives her a certain peace and ability to deal with things that she hasn't been able to deal with before.
Silas and Isobelle quickly become extremely attached to each other, soon start dating, and then move in with each other. Their relationship is working for them and you think that things will finally look up for both of them. But a crazy, potential rapist and killer, that used to work with Isobelle is not okay with them being together. Isobelle's life is put in danger and now Silas is going to have to fight for both of them. I can't wait for the third book to come out. I need a happy ending for both Silas and Isobelle.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked Silas in the first book and it was great to get to know him better in this book. There is a major cliff hanger ending, which is kind of annoying. I hope it does not take too long for the next book to come out.
